"Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?" (John 19:11; NIV)This is the same man who had said a little earlier to Jesus, "What is truth?" (John 18:38; NIV).
It struck me because of Jesus' own words some time before, in speaking to the Jews:
"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free... So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (John 8:32,36; NIV).Jesus also said, "I am the way and the truth and the life." (John 14:6; NIV)
Pilate had no idea who he was talking to, or what he was talking about. Too many people speak too freely about freedom, ignoring--or worse, rejecting--the truth. May we find true freedom in Jesus.
